For all those interested in chess.

This gambit attempt to meet Dutch Defence is of course similar to Staunton Gambit, but the essence of play in both gambits is different. In Sweden was developed and played on practice Sjodin gambit, which is very similar to Lviv gambit: 1.d4 e6 2.Nf3 f5 3.e4 fxe4 4.Ng5 Nf6 5.f3. Lviv gambit appeared in practice late enough - in XX century. First analyses were done by chessplayers from Lviv (in that time Lemberg), articles were published in Polish chess magazine, as Lviv was annexed by Poland. On the high level gambit was applied by famous Leningrad theoretical Lisitsin and in some sources Gambit was named after him. But most of the specialists agreed that gambit was developed by Lviv chessplayers and has to be called Lviv gambit. For example, what wrote the great Mikhail Botvinnik "The start reaction to the Black"s attempt to play Dutch Defence. The position is too open and White succesfully fights the initiative". Gambit was played by such great players as Ju. Bogoljubov, L. Szabo,V. Pirc,K. RobatchandS. Gligoric. Among modern grandmasters gambit fans are J. Lautier, J. Piket, R. Vaganian, C. Hansen, P. San Segundo, M. Rohde, R. Kempinski and B. Damljanovic. An the beginning Lviv gambit was played in such way 1.Nf3 d5 2.e4 dxe4 3.Ng5. Main idea was after 3. ...Qxd5 to play 4.d3 exd3 5.Bxd3 Qxg2 6.Be4 Qg4 7.Qxg4 Bxg4 8.Bxb7 winning the Rook. But after some time players from Lviv realized that after 1.Nf3 f5 Lviv gambit idea 2.e4! is extremely effective. Alekhin in his comment to Bogoljubov-Tartakover game from Nottingham, 1936, called gambit not Lisitsin but Lviv and wrote that1.Nf3 f5 can"t be recommendated. Modern theory doesn"t share these extreme view, Alekhins idea has to be considered very serious.
